Shamrocks Drop Two Due To Penalty Trouble / U18 Tier 1 AAA

Monday, January 22, 2018, 11:41AM
Cody Porcello (Melrose, MA) had two power play assists this weekend.

The Shamrocks took to the ice this weekend to face off against NPHL opponent Walpole Express and the Islanders Hockey Club of the USPHL. The Shamrocks held the season lead against the Express winning their first two match ups earlier this season 9—2 and 4—3 OT. Their previous success however would not help them in Saturday afternoon's home game.

The Express came out hard looking to avenge their previous defeat. Walpole struck first on a turnover in the neutral zone leading to a quick transition for the Express just as a Shamrocks power play had ended. The Shamrocks answered right back however as Robby Hickman fired home a slap shot from the point assisted by Benedic Jobin. The Express did not wait long to score again though as the Shamrocks allowed a shorthanded breakaway goal on a giveaway on the power play. The struggles would continue as the Express added another before the end of the second period taking a 3-1 lead into the lockeroom. The Shamrocks tried to build some momentum in the third but it would be halted by an Express power play goal to seal the deal at 4—1.

Sunday night the Shamrocks traveled to Skate 3 in Tyngsborough to skate against the Islanders Hockey Club. The Shamrocks came out with tremendous energy and speed. They set the physical tone of the game and looked to be finding their stride. Ryan Davis got things started when he redirected a backdoor pass from Jacob Greenholz on the power play that was kept alive by Cody Porcello on the point. Penalties would get in the Shamrocks way of success yet again however as they allowed the Islanders to come back to take a 3—1 lead. The Shamrocks cut the lead to 3—2 however when Jacob Greenholz found the back of the net this time on a tip from a slap shot from Jackson Puzzo, once again set up by Cody Porcello. Not long after however The Shamrocks gave up their second short handed goal of the weekend on an intercepted pass in the offensive zone. The Islanders controlled the second period scoring five times to take a 6—2 lead into the lockeroom. The Shamrocks made a valiant effort to come back but it was too tall of a task for one period. Final score Islanders 7, Shamrocks 2.

The Shamrocks take on Worcester Academy this Wednesday 1/24/17 at 4:00 PM at the Worcester Ice Center.
