Shamrocks Get Back On Track / U18 Tier 1 AAA

Friday, December 8, 2017, 12:29PM

The Shamrocks came back from the Thanksgiving break looking to get their season back on track. Prior to the break the team had a hard fought battle against Canterbury School falling 5—3 with an empty net goal. The Shamrocks held a 3—3 tie with 4:37 remaining in the game when the Saints were able to find the back of the net. Despite pulling the goaltender the Shamrocks were unable to make the come back. Goals came from Jason Schwartz, Jacob Greenholz and Brett Rockey. Nathan Loisel stopped 35 of 39 shots. Despite the loss the game would be a building block for the second half of the season.

The Shamrocks came back from break and got set for a long stretch of 5 games in 5 nights. First up was Buckingham Browne and Nichols School on a frigid Tuesday night in Cambridge, MA. The Shamrocks came out flying. After a flurry of shots and rebounds Chen Zadik found the back of the net for the first time this season (Assists coming from Mostovoy and Curtis). Ethan Racz turned away 10 of 10 shots in the first half of the game before Loisel took over for the second half. The Shamrocks continued to sustain pressure but failed to capitalize on chances and extend their lead. The Knights were able to tie the game when a Knight's forward beat out an icing call and found his teammate on the doorstep. The score would remain knotted at 1—1 and the Shamrocks would have to settle for a tie. Loisel stopped 11/12 shots
On Wednesday, the Shamrocks traveled to Newington, CT to face off against Kingswood Oxford School. KO has undergone a rebuild of their team over the last year but hoped their young squad could come out and battle. The Shamrocks however would prove to be just too much for them, as the team sustained constant pressure through three periods of play. The Shamrocks outshot KO 76 —10 and outscored them by a 17—0 margin despite their efforts to extend their passing plays. Ethan Racz had the shut out and two assists in the game. Jacob Greenholz scored 4 times, Jack Meteyer recorded his first Shamrocks career hat trick, and Jackson Puzzo tallied 7 points including 2 goals and 5 assists.

Thursday night the Shamrocks traveled to Pingree School as they continued their stretch of games against NEPSAC teams. Nathan Loisel got the start in net. The Shamrocks came out again controlling the play — something they have been emphasizing heavily as of late. Jason Schwartz got the team on the board first on a shot from just outside the blue-line, which the Pingree net minder meant to deflect into the corner. Instead, he directed it into the top corner of the net. Assists came from Robby Hickman and Benedic Jobin. Pingree notched the score at 1—1 however on a power play goal in which the Shamrocks failed to clear out the front of the net. Jason Schwartz, who has recently moved up to forward for the Shamrocks decided he'd like to continue his scoring streak. A play began from the corner on the power play as Benedic Jobin worked the puck up to defensemen Itay Mostovoy. Mostovoy walked the line and fired a shot- pass to the net. Schwartz went hard to the net with his stick down on the ice and got a piece of the puck directing it over the goalies shoulder. Shamrocks lead 2—1. With just over six minutes to go, Pingree would tie the game at 2—2 on another blown coverage by the Shamrocks. The team would have to settle for their second tie of the week in a game that they controlled but did not put away. Loisel stopped 26 of 28.

Friday night the Shamrocks traveled to NPHL opponent Walpole Express, hungry for a win. The team came out a little flat and gave the Express an early 1—0 advantage. The Shamrocks however would tie the game early in the second period. Who but Jason Schwartz would get the goal once again on the power play. Schwartz now has 6 goals in his last 7 games. The Shamrocks would never look back in this one as they would cruise to a 9—2 victory. Benedic Jobin scored twice while Mostovoy had a goal and three helpers. Robby Hickman also got on the score sheet with an assist. Hickman missed the last two months with an injury but is back and looking to make up for lost time.

Saturday afternoon the Shamrocks would close out their week with a rematch against Walpole. Coming off one of their most successful games of the year the Shamrocks wanted to build on their momentum. The Express came out with intensity looking to avenge their previous defeat. They took an early 2—0 lead before the Shamrocks bench finally woke up. Jackson Puzzo got the team on the board on a shorthanded bid after senior Jack Meteyer blocked a multitude of shots on the PK. Cody Porcello, from neighboring city of Melrose, MA would keep the scoring going as he would blast home a shot from the point through traffic as well after Ryan Davis fought to keep a puck in the attacking zone. New addition to the team, defenseman and Calgary, Alberta native Spencer McHardy would find the net next on a snap shot through traffic to take the lead. The Shamrocks found themselves in a little bit of penalty trouble later on in the game that would inevitably cost them. The Express tied the game at 3—3 and would force overtime. Just 15 seconds into the extra frame, Itay Mostovoy intercepted a pass that sent Jackson Puzzo in on a breakaway. Puzzo buried the opportunity to seal the deal and finish the weekend. Loisel would get the win in net.
